SONY ZD9 series (FALD Backlight Master Drive)

About 3 hours of viewing this set in my living room. Have yet to see any blooming.
If it's blacks aren't absolute black, they are certainly fabulous and good enough for me.
Viewing angle? Standing about 8 feet from the screen, I can go 7 or 8 feet with no detectable fall off. Beyond that I run into a wall or the patio.

Just wanted to do a quick post for now. Spent about 15 minutes doing a quick eyeball calibration and the picture is gorgeous. Currently watching the DirecTV 4K feed of the Olympics. Looks excellent.

Upconversion of DirecTV's 1080 signal also looks very good. Blacks are terrific.

I have a lot more fine tuning to do later today, but so far, I'm very impressed with this display. I'll watch a 4K HDR disk a bit later.

Previous display was the Sony 950B, which, other than the lack of HDR, displays an incredible picture. It's very hard to compare to the Z9D from memory, but I think the blacks and shadow detail are better with the Z9D.

Tengo ganas de ver algun análisis porque hasta ahora me lo creo mucho... pero ojalá hayan echo magia y no solamente trucos de teles bien o mal configuradas..
Le faltaría dolby visión.. hablar del procesado de fuentes de mala calidad y corro al banco a entramparme como un esclavo con las cláusulas abusivas que tengan a mal encasquetarme.

Pues cuanto más leo más me gusta. Ya son varios que comentan que es la implementación de CLEDIS en el mercado doméstico. Hablan de 27 mil zonas para el modelo de 100", una barbaridad. Y 3000 nits para HDR.

En teoría hoy por la noche subirán fotos e impresiones de varios expertos de por allí.

Lo que si que es verdad es que son suposiciones, hasta que no haya reviews serias y que vayan contando los LED´s de atenuación del que disponga cada modelo (el de 100" me parece que se les escapa a todos), no son más que puras conjeturas y mucha palabrería al fin y al cabo. Lo del brillo si que puede ser verdad, pero de lo otro, no se está tan seguro todavía.

Lo bueno por parte de Sony es que básicamente ofrece un nivel de procesamiento de imágenes en movimiento (Motionflow) como el mejor del mercado. Frente al procesador X1 Extreme pienso que básicamente es el mismo usado en las otras gamas 4K solo que añadiendo algún tipo de "overclocking" para que sea más rápido en recabar la información y hacerlo aún más rápido.

Yo es que pago la última letra del coche el dia 31 y tengo la sensación que es que no quiere nadie venderme nada.

El mes pasado compré un PHILIPS SCREENEO un proyector de tiro vertical.. pues lo tuve una tarde en casa (después de una odisea para conseguirlo por los 3 MEDIAMARKTS..) y lo devolví... y eso que me parecía el recopetín en que gastarse el dinero..
pero el cacharro estaba estropeado.. hacia mucho ruido... y no se puede calibrar porque el menú sale en una ventana en medio de la pantalla... vamos que de parecerme el santo grial le cogí manía al bicho... y pense mejor me compro otra tele...

pero nada me satisface lo suficiente... todas tienen problemas y la mía se ve muy bien por eso digo..

a ver si es verdad que todas estas mierdas que anuncian son como dicen.. porque luego entre una cosa y la otra uno no sabe que comprar...

Siempre va a haber algo muy superior que lo anterior en mayor o menor medida, todo está en la satisfacción que le de de si a cada persona, que eso es muy diferente. Quien dice que en el siguiente CES no presentan más bombazos por parte de otras marcas? Si esperamos, nunca compramos, y si compramos, se quedará atrás en cuánto te des la vuelta... Al final lo que hago es quedarme "quieto parao" y esperar... no me vienen las ganas ni las ansias ni de gastar dinero, ni de tener lo último o lo penúltimo y mucho menos por puro capricho... simplemente explotar al máximo lo que se tiene a día de hoy y se acabó, cuándo se rompa algo, es cuándo se mira, no antes.

I know you folks want all sorts of technical details and pics, but I'm more of a "how does the picture really look" than a technical person. I'm certainly interested is some of the technical details that might affect the picture quality, even if not obvious with a regular image, but ultimately, it's the picture that counts.

The 65 Z9D picture quality is simply incredible. I spend hours watching it last night and this morning. What impressed me most was the depth and clarity of the image. The blacks were truly impressive as was the brightness of the image without any blooming or blown highlights that I could see. Colors were incredibly rich and pure looking. The animated Blu-ray movies I checked never looked better. The black levels and color fidelity of my Z9D are so beautiful, it's hard to imagine it being much better. And given what I think is superior shadow detail and motion handling of this set compared to the OLED's I've seen, I can't imagine being more satisfied with any other set.

I understand that these terms can be nebulous and very subjective. I've heard many people describe a 3D quality to an image. I've never been able to see that, until now. The picture just seems to be more "alive" and "vibrant" than any previous display I've seen. I'm wondering is this appearance is due to the greater local contrast from the master back light drive.

As good as my Sony 950B is (was), the 65Z9D is better. Earlier this year, to get HDR, I purchased the Sony 65" 930D. I knew I was trading FALD on the 950B for Sony's new Slim Backlight Drive. I had hoped it would be good enough. In the store, the 930D looked OK, but didn't cause me to swoon. Sadly, within an hour of setting it up at home, I knew I had made a mistake. The picture was good, but not nearly good enough when compared to my 950B. It lacked a vibrancy and clarity I had come to expect with my 950B. It was returned.

Enter the Z9D. In the store, even with terrible ambient lighting, I sensed a special quality to the image that really excited me. Throughout the evening of viewing many different sources, I was continually saying "wow" to myself. I know this is very subjective, and maybe I'm full of it, but this is one gorgeous display, even better than I expected. I saw absolutely no imperfections. Even if, when you folks do more sophisticated testing that I can do, you find a slight negative, I don't believe it would change my opinion of the image quality.

I'll be interested in hearing what other owners say about this display. I think it's the best set that Sony has every produced.
