Compared to my E6:
1) A1 is slightly sharper and is way less noisy in near black and with poor cable content like the C7. The A1 does a great job cleaning up poor near black cable content so that it’s not distracting to your eye like it is on the E6 no matter what you do.
2) The calibration of the A1 to my eye is very, very good as compared to my calibrated E6. I was very surprised at this.
3) In order for the A1 to be as bright and "punchy" as the LG you need to turn up the Xtended dynamic range to High. If you watch at 30 FL then you can lower down the Xtended range.
4) You also need to change the Screen Area to Full Pixel otherwise the picture is slightly zoomed.
5) The near black detail was almost identical on the A1 and my E6 probably because of my calibration technique on the E6. You can see the same black detail but its way less noisy on the A1. The C7 looked the same to me.
6) The white uniformity is perfect on the A1, even off angle, which I believe was the same on the C7. You don’t get that warm on the left and cool whites on the right of the screen like you get on the 2016 LGs.
7) The HDR on the A1 is slightly sharper and brighter with small objects which is to be expected, than the E6. You can see more fine detail on the A1. The HDR on the C7 didn't look different to me than on the E6 so the A1 might have an edge here. I couldn't see the slight exaggerations concerning the A1s HDR as some have reported but the HDR in my E6 is perfectly calibrated which may be why it pretty much looked the same.
8) Personally I believe Dolby Vision looks better on my E6 than the HDR on the A1. I believe when DV is available on the A1 it will excellent.
9) Contrary to some reports here, I think that the E6 colors are slightly more saturated than the A1. Not bad, just different.
10) The differences between the two sets became less apparent as I viewed higher grade 4k content which I expected because the A1 is doing less processing so you are left with the difference being the panels which are “basically” the same. No major differences “Overall”.
Please remember that my E6 is perfectly calibrated with all the “tricks” implemented to bring the picture out of black quicker, etc… The sets are side by side in a totally dark room with the same FiOs and other feeds so I was able to see both sets simultaneously.
I’ll be looking at the calibration shortly.
Now is the A1 so much better than my calibrated E6 that I would dump it? So far, my opinion is no. When you see the two sets side by side they look very close. In some cases, the A1's color processing makes the picture look more natural and smooth and upscaling on the A1 is better but it's not "crazy" better. It's not going to make a blurry picture sharp. The colors, skin tones, etc., are very close but you can see also see that the white uniformity in the A1 across the screen is excellent which gives a better overall. When I say better, I mean, an increment, not "crazy", looks like a different set better.
