Sony Announces Two New Blu-ray Players


Sony Electronics has announced two new players to their Blu-ray line, the BDP-S350 and the BDP-S550. When released, both will not only be BonusView (Profile v1.1) players, but will also be BD-Live (Profile v2.0) ready, meaning they can be updated via firmware to full BD-Live compatibility. The BDP-S350 will ship sometime in the Summer for $400, followed in the Fall by the BDP-S550 for $500.

The BDP-S350 will offer 1080p24/60 output via HDMI, an Ethernet port, and decoding of 7.1 Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD. The player will also be capable of bit streaming Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio to a capable receiver. Additionally, it will support for the expanded xvYCC color space during playback of AVCHD discs, and compatibility with most BD, DVD, and CD media.

In addition to having all the features of the S350, the BDP-S550 will feature 1GB of storage of persistent storage. Additionally, it will decode DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio and feature 7.1 analog outs.

Verbatim Increase Blu-ray Production


Mitsubishi Kagaku Media, more universally known as Verbatim, has announced the addition of a BD-R line to their Singapore processing plant in the July/August timeframe. They currently output 200,000 discs per month at their Mizsushima factory, and with the addition of their new line, that output will increase to 700,000 per month.

NetBlender Adds Blu-ray Support

NetBlender has announced that they will add Blu-ray support to their DoStudio line of authoring software. DoStudio Authoring Edition (DSA), which in expected to be released this May, will feature an easy-to-learn GUI interface and support for Adobe Photoshop importing. BonusView support will be added to the package in the Fall, followed by BD-Live support which is expected to be released early next year.

Sony Promotes Blu-ray Exchange in Switzerland


Sony Electronics Switzerland is offering HD DVD owner the chance to trade in their now defunct HD DVD players for a Blu-ray player. When you buy either a Sony BDP-S300 or BDP-S500 Blu-ray Disc Player, you can send in your HD DVD player (to be recycled by Sony) purchased before February 29th of this year and receive a check for 200 Swiss Francs (~$190) and both 'Spider-man' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' trilogies on Blu-ray.

Dirty Harry Slotted for June Blu-ray Release

Warner Home Video has revealed that they will release 'Dirty Harry: The Ultimate Collection' for Blu-ray on June 3rd, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. No specs have been announced at this time, but the set will include Blu-ray releases of 'Dirty Harry', 'Magnum Force', 'The Enforcer', 'Sudden Impact' and 'The Dead Pool'. No extras have been announced at this time, but Warner promises that the box set will be loaded with special features.

No se sabe aun nada para europa, pero siendo warner seguro que llega mas o menos al tiempo, pack de las pelis de harry el sucio

Imagino que ya los estrenos actuales de cine de Universal y Paramount serán editados directamente en Blu-ray, y tal vez sean los que den el pistoletazo de salido a su entrada en el formato... Ojalá sea así!

Lo mismo pasaba con la musica, la gente decia que acabarian con los cd's de musica por culpa de las descargas mp3, y que todo se haria por internet, y fijaos, aun siguen metiendo caña. Yo creo que ese articulo es "pataleta" de algun analista que le dolio muchisimo la retirada de un formato perdedor, y la unica forma de consolarse es deduciendo que el blu-ray tiene los dias contados.El blu-ray acaba de nacer, y en un plazo corto se convertira en formato estandard, como dice ese articulo, y le queda muchisima vida, y si, convivira con las descargas, porque siempre hay gente que quiere algo material en su estanteria y no algo virtual en su disco duro. Y mas con TODAS las compañias apoyando 100% al BD, es un formato con muchisimo futuro.
