Hello nicodo.
Difference searching the tuner and AV recording inside the LG drive is that when AV recording, the last two bytes in the pattern you propose (00 00 01 BA 44 00 04 00), --> (04 00) are not constant. Each file has different pair of bytes in this location, and I don't know what they means. Maybe is the size, maybe not .... So, the search is not exact and if you have 20 AV recorded files, maybe you´ll find 400 or 500 patterns like this 00 00 01 BA 44 00. With tuner recorded files, the search is exact, so if you have 5 files, you will find 5 times that pattern. I added in the pattern, at the begining, 16 zeros, so my search pattern was (00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 BA 44 00), and in my case, I found it 450 times.
Otherwise, MPG is an error tolerant format, so you can copy the next 15 GB since the first pattern found, and once saved into a new file in your PC, you can open it with any player and forward into the movie looking for your deleted title or scene. Searching in this mode, with your eyes, is very fast. But for saving a 15 GB file maybe you'll need 15-20 minutes. If you try this 5 or 6 times, making 15 GB movies, sure you will find your lost file. Why 15 GB size? Because i did it before with a 30 GB movie and my player didn't worked fine, so I decided to reduce it.
I expect you can add this info into your web site, so maybe it could help any other awkward people like me...
