Acerca de Flamsteed
Biografía:
John Flamsteed, (19 de agosto de 1646 - 31 de diciembre de 1719) Astrónomo británico, el primer Astrónomo Real, nombrado en 1675 por el rey Carlos II en respuesta a la necesidad de encontrar un medio fiable de medir la longuitud en el mar. Flamsteed recomendo obtener medidas mas precisas de los movimientos de la Luna y las posiciones de las estrellas, metodo que se realizo, pero que a la postre quedo absoleto con la invencion poco despues del cronometro naval. El Observatorio Real de Greenwich fue construido para el. El catalogo de 1935 estrellas, Historia coelestis Britannica, fue publicado postumamente en 1725 y fue el primer catalogo de estrellas importante realizado con ayuda del telescopio. Cuatro años mas tarde fueron publicadas un conjunto de cartas celestes basadas en su catalogo, el Atlas Coelestis. Muchas estrellas se conocen todavia en la actualidad por los numeros que le asigno Flamsteed, como la 61 Cygni, primera estrella a la que se determino la distancia.
