I've had the 65inch AE1 for a couple days now and can attest to most of Al Leongs claims. One of the most impressive things about the television is how it handles 1080p and below content (retro gaming, wii games 480i/480p, PS1 PS2, etc); I have struggled since HD flat screens became ubiquitous to find a great performing television for this content and it's the best by far at displaying this content (even during game mode). It's upconversion of Blu-ray content is also exceptional, very very impressive, at times I honestly felt it was 4k. I've come from a Z9D, B6 and an EF9500 and have a couple top of the line plasmas (not the very top but the VT60s were up there) for those who wonder my point of reference.

Now for the bad- I'm not too sure if I have a defective unit or if its because it was the first unit to the store that was meant to be a display unit, but its uniformity above black (tested with a 5% black image) was just as bad as my 2 year old EF9500. In a game like Inside that is very grey and dark I can see vertical banding (not color banding) like I did on my EF9500, as well scenes in Snowpiercer (including the starting credits). All my testing was done in a perfectly black room and I did notice when I let sun in it was much more difficult to see the vertical banding during the same content but the deep black levels suffer slightly for it. Is exchanging it for me this Fri/Sat so hopefully I was just piss poor unlucky and got a bad unit, but if the television again has ****ty uniformity just above black (this atrociously bad) I'll unfortunately have to wait for next year and hope they improve that ****. I'm not including a picture of it because my pixel camera is displaying it much worse than it looks to my eyes and I don't want to give people the wrong impression. I will say the gray uniformity was great (20%) and practically flawless.
And the sound! Holy **** this thing is loud and ****ing clear! Voices are so clear and it sounds much better than what I've experienced with LG speakers (including the E6 and G6)...I've only heard the W7 in store and too much noise around to properly compare the audio with that system but if anything they're close in loudness and clearness.
