Fox/MGM Reveal Additional 2008 Titles

Our good friend Bill over at The Digital Bits has let his fingers do the walking and contacted studios regarding their upcoming plans for Blu-ray releases now that the format war is officially over. The only studio forthcoming with new information was surprisingly the Fox/MGM group, who revealed some of their upcoming titles that are currently in the planning phase.

In addition to previously announced Fox/MGM titles announced thus far, the studios also indicated the possibility that titles such as 'Walk The Line', 'Batman: The Movie (1966)', 'The French Connection', 'Super Troopers', 'Fargo', 'The X-Men Trilogy', 'Planet of the Apes (1968)', and 'Young Frankenstein' may also see Blu-ray release this year. None of these titles have confirmed dates, so please consider them just rumors at this point in time.

Calls to Paramount and Universal did not get ignored, but those two previous HD DVD exclusive studios are still not ready to announce their Blu-ray plans at this time. Paramount specially is aware they have disappointed consumers and want to ensure their Blu-ray products are of the best possible quality before they announce titles and dates.

The Blu-ray Disc Association has extended an oil branch to both studios, assisting them in any way possible. Rival studios have even donated production time to the once enemies, in a effort to help these studios get their Blu-ray products released sooner. Replication lines are also being increased in order to ensure there is enough production capacity to fulfill demand for the 2008 holiday season.
