Have you tried a variety of target curves? I don't care for the default target curve. I generally toggle between the NAD curve and a Harman curve based on what content I'm playing. You can also create your own.

Also, keep in mind that if you're comparing Dirac vs. no correction, you should level match. Dirac will be quieter due to the digital attenuation applied to the signal for headroom management (in case boost is required) so the volume needs to be increased a bit to the Dirac processed signal for a fair comparison.
