WD TV Play Box

Western Digital espera ser una buena alternativa para el Roku y el Apple TV con el nuevo WD TV Play Box, que viene con aplicaciones de streaming y streaming de red. Cuesta $ 70 dólares.




Se podrá tener acceso a servicios como Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Spotify, Pandora y más. Además, acceder a las redes sociales y otros servicios locales en su país (si cuenta con el apoyo de WD, se entiende).






Pero el WD TV Play Boxes también es un reproductor de red. Al utilizar el sistema DLNA abierto que te permite hacer streaming de vídeo, música y fotos desde un NAS o PC / Mac de tu casa tanto por red como por wifi (Wifi-N). Western Digital no ha dado a conocer todos los detalles sobre los codecs soportados pero se espera que sean los más comunes. WD Play TV soporta streaming 1080p.

El Play box viene con un sencillo mando a distancia pero también se puede optar por controlarlo a través de la aplicación para smartphones iOS y Android y tabletas. La aplicación se llama WD TV Remote y es gratuito.

The good: The WD TV Play offers an improved interface and a greater selection of content than before. Setup is easy and the connection stayed solid during testing. The WD TV Play is one of the best values available in the market.

The bad: Missing some important apps, including Amazon Instant and live sports apps. The device couldn't playback all test videos despite listed compatibility. The gaming apps aren't very worthwhile.

The bottom line: The WD TV Play is the best alternative to Roku and Apple TV for viewers looking to access their personal media collection.
