OLED vs EL RESTO

En el último Shootout que muchos les gusta tenemos una buena aproximación a la realidad (con los televisores calibrados):

En los videos de izquierda a derecha: Panasonic CX850, Sony X94C, Samsung JS9500 y OLED LG EG960

Y aunque en los videos quedan palpables bastantes cosas, como siempre hay margen de error debido a las limitaciones técnicas y ajustes de la cámara de captura y monitor de visión lo complementamos con los resultados de las votaciones:

El OLED y los LCD están prácticamente empatados en entorno oscuro y gana el LCD en entorno iluminado y en ambos casos con visión frontal.

En cuanto a calidad de imagen global, la mitad de la audiencia eligió el OLED y la otra mitad a un LCD. De los 5 expertos 1 seleccionó al OLED y los 4 restantes a un LCD.

• For approximately the same price as OLED, you get an additional 10" of screen real estate.
• The best LCDs can keep up with OLED PQ for the vast majority of content and, depending on how much value you place in HDR, in some cases, exceed it.
• In certain scenes OLED will boast a better black level. However in OLED's current state, those same scenes may be marred by OLED's dark edge issues.
• The best LCDs are more future-proof with their ability to either currently display HDR content from both streaming content as well as the upcoming UHD BluRay or do so via a future firmware upgrade. OLED will only be compatible with HDR streaming via a future firmware upgrade.
• For those with seating arrangements that make viewing angle critical, OLED trumps LCD. Period. For those seated in the sweet spot, this is a non-issue. As we saw at the shootout, viewing angles do vary among the best LCDs.
• IR is a bit of an issue with OLEDs, but I'm not convinced that burn-in is any real issue in a home environment. LCD is free of either issue.
• Some prefer motion on the OLEDs over LCDs, some LCDs enable more options for motion handling than others and other viewers find motion an issue with anything other plasma...some will take plasma to their graves.

Y ahora se ha comprado un LCD Sony X94C

Pero no os preocupéis el OLED tiene pocas probabilidades de que fracase, ya que se trata no solo de OLED TV sino muchas inversiones en materiales OLED en los que hay muchas empresas implicadas y que tarde o temprano cuando el OLED tv consiga abaratar su coste irá sustituyendo paulatinamente al LCD el cual tiene pocas posibilidades de alcanzar la delgadez y flexibilidad del OLED.

Mientras tanto lo que hay es lo que se ha visto en el Shootout, un empate con ventajas para el OLED para entornos oscuros y del LCD para entornos iluminados y variable según el contenido a visualizar. El año que viene ya veremos. Veremos lo que el HDR depara.
