I've got an HTPC with ATI Radeon X1200 series integrated video, and it has a native HDMI port on the motherboard. I've got the HDMI running out to the HDMI1 port on the TV and then I'm running an optical audio cable from the digital audio out port on the TV to my receiver. [Sadly, my surround receiver pre-dates HDMI, so I can't run HTPC -> receiver -> TV, which would be the preferred method.] Anyway, I'm only getting 2 channel stereo output passed to the receiver, and I'm not sure if the TV will pass DTS/Dolby Digital from the HDMI input to the digital audio output. Saw some conflicting info in the user manual about this. There is another possible issue regarding getting the ATI HDMI to pass multichannel audio over HDMI, which I'm chasing down, but I'd like to confirm there isn't a limitation on passing multichannel digital audio out from the TV to the receiver so I know where to concentrate my efforts on getting HTPC nirvana.

Can anyone confirm that they're getting surround sound out from the digital audio out port on the TV?

Bad news: No TV will pass a Dolby Digital signal from its digital audio output port. This design limitation is intentional and results from stupid copyright protection laws.

If your surround audio receiver has a digital audio input port then run a cable directly from the source to your receiver.

Puede ser por esto?. ¿Estara Ramocin al final detras de todo?
