xvColor uses the same "core" digital values as HD/709 color - so when a display's xvColor mode is enabled and you send HD/709 sources, you only get HD/709 color. xvColor is an "extension" of HD/709 color space - it was implemented to make the existing HD/709 digital levels ALWAYS represent HD/709 color properly. The ONLY time you see anything in the xvColor expanded color space is if the "new" xvColor digital levels exist in the input signal. When 16-235 RGB video is encoded to YCbCr... there are a lot of digital values in the YCbCr domain that are never used. xvColor uses those "never exist in HD/709" YCC digital values to expand the HD/709 color space. It would be very surprising - and very wrong - for a video display to change anything on the screen when you are sending an HD/709 source and you switch xvColor on and off. That TV would not display real xvColor properly either. When you are sending an HD/709 source, you should get exactly the same image whether xvColor is on, off, or Auto - and calibration should not be different in any way as long as you are sending HD/709 color from the signal generator or test disc.

There are some consumer digital video cameras that support xvColor (aka xvYCC), but no pre-recorded commercial sources. So you could potentially own one of those digital video cameras and shoot your own xvColor videos and play them on your xvColor video display.
